Evidence status
Educational draft: initial reading does not replace academic and community review.
Species occurrence records
OBIS brings together marine species-occurrence observations. A recorded point does not automatically establish a resident population, abundance or an association with kelong.
Data are not exhaustive
Absence of records on a map is not proof a species is absent. Sampling intensity, identification quality, observation time and spatial biases matter.
Visualisation ethics
Avoid publishing precise coordinates for sensitive species or protected community locations. Review dataset licences before reuse.
Learning question
What is actually supported by local sources, and what still requires direct investigation?
